Project Description
This facility serves as a “nerve center” where employees monitor the status of the transmission system, coordinate line outages for maintenance or repair and remotely operate switches and breakers at substations. This single story structural steel building was built over a crawl space with deep foundations of drilled and belled concrete piling. Exterior walls are tilt up concrete wall panels with a modified bitumen roof. This facility contains 15 operator consoles, nine offices and 43 cubicles. A large electronic map displaying Entergy’s full network let workers immediately know where outages are occurring and which locations are best to dispatch help most quickly. This building was built to FEMA 361 standards which requires seismic restraint of all non-structural components of the building. The new center was also hardened to withstand a F5 tornado. Entergy Mississippi provides electricity to approximately 441,000 customers in 45 counties.
