Project Description
This LEED Silver certified, high-end, state-of-the-art “steamless” laundry facility is the first of its kind constructed for the Department of Veteran Affairs. The 41,000-square-foot laundry operates utilizing electricity, photovoltaic, thermal, and green power energy sources. The green energy consumption and management alternate based on availability and switches over automatically through automation and “smart building” functions built into the project. This facility, which processes laundry for the Biloxi campus and other off-site VA facilities throughout the region, utilizes steamless technology laundry equipment to reduce the building’s energy and water consumption and saves up to 40% on utility costs. To achieve LEED Silver certification, the project incorporated high-efficiency equipment that minimizes water, gas, and electric consumption. This project also contains a 24,000-square-foot dietetics facility for food preparation to service the on-campus VA hospital, 5,000 square feet of shared office and conference space, 7,000 square feet of mechanical/electrical space, 3,000 square feet of mezzanine storage and MEP space, and a 1,000-square-foot Well and Pump House with a 1200-gpm well installed approximately 1200 feet deep. This project was completed on an active VA hospital campus without disruption to provided healthcare services.
