Project Description

The Museum of Natural Science is located on a 300 acre site at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park. Designed to blend into its natural surroundings, the two-story museum provides educators, students and 200,000 annual visitors the opportunity to glimpse at replicas of the Mississippi Sound, Barrier Islands, Panther Swamp in the Mississippi Delta and the Pearl River. In addition to dioramas, kiosks and sixteen life-like exhibits, the massive concrete, below-grade structure features a domed skylight and provides a library, multi-purpose theater and classroom spaces. Offering more than 60,000 gallons of fresh water exhibits, the facility provides working laboratories for fish and animal research. Outside, the project included walking trails and natural exhibits with indigenous plants, trees and flowers.
