The Residential College provides 153,000 square feet of innovative housing for students, faculty and staff with 466 beds for students from all majors and from all years of study. The College is fully accessible, and has 6 types of room layout’s ranging from a standard double suite to a corner suite of four single rooms. All rooms, along with their individual thermostats, have bathrooms en suite, as well as single rooms with a private bathroom.
The Residential College was a 17-month project with a six-day schedule and for two months, operated 24-hour a day with two crews. During peak construction times a crew of 200 workers were on-site in order to meet the deadline. The lower level is slab on grade with the first floor being ½ slab on grade, 1/2 post tensioned slab. The second floor ½ Post tensioned slab, ½ lightweight concrete slab on metal deck. The third-attic utilized lightweight concrete on metal deck. The primary exterior materials are masonry with glass-fiber reinforced concrete. All of the hard work paid off and the Residential College opened in time for students to get settled in for the year.
