Designed to attain LEED Silver, the project achieved LEED Gold. Paved areas utilize a “white” concrete mix design to achieve the required LEED Solar Reflectance Index values. Surface parking contains spaces for bicycles, low emitting vehicles, handicapped accessible and standard vehicles. Exterior concrete canopies, a +/- 200 ft long concrete bus drop off canopy and over 7 acres of sod and landscaped areas were included. The new school has interior and exterior walls constructed of CMU. The exterior walls have brick, cast stone and metal wall panel facades. The exterior glass and glazing used materials with a low Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) along with exterior sun shades and interior light shelves to optimize day-lighting while minimizing energy consumption. Separated into three areas (A, B and C), Area A contains the mechanical/central plant, cafeteria, kitchen, gym, stage, art room, music/choir room, media center and concession area. Area B contains two clerestory atrium areas, administration areas, offices, storage rooms and classrooms. Area C is a two level classroom area containing typical classrooms, two science labs and two computer labs.
