Louisiana Cancer Research Center
New Orleans, LA
The new 10-story, 260,000 sf facility is a state-of-the-art cancer research facility with a pile supported, poured-in-place concrete parking garage and a structural steel frame research facility. The exterior facade consists of a glass curtain wall system, aluminum composite metal panels, and architectural precast concrete panels. Because the cancer center will be home to very sensitive samples and experiments, the construction team has gone to great lengths to make sure outside vibrations will not affect them. Any vibration, even from a car in the garage 7 stories below, could jeopardize research results. For this reason, the design and construction execution of this project incorporated innovative design and construction techniques to include use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for extensive coordination necessary on a building of this complexity.
