GULFPORT, MS, March 9, 2016 – Roy Anderson Corp today announced that its work on the VA Medical Center Laundry-Dietetics Building in Biloxi, MS has earned the company a National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the Federal Government $10-$100 Million Category. Representatives from the company received the award March 2 during ABC’s 26th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
"Roy Anderson Corp earned this Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award through their dedication to safety, quality craftsmanship and teamwork and Associated Builders and Contractors is pleased to honor them," said 2016 ABC National Chair David Chapin, president of Willmar Electric Service, Lincoln, Neb. "From start to finish, Roy Anderson Corp demonstrated a commitment to innovation and high quality construction in their work on Laundry-Dietetics Building, a commitment that is clearly evident in the finished product."
This 81,000 sf building consists of a steamless laundry, a dietetics facility, as well as office and storage space. The building operates utilizing both electricity and green power generated by thermal and photovoltaic energy sources. The green energy consumption and management alternate based on availability and switches over automatically based on the automation and "smart building" functions designed and built into the project. This high-end, state of the art "steamless" laundry facility is the first of its kind constructed for the service of the Department of Veteran Affairs.
The Excellence in Construction Awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. Eagle awards were presented to the highest scoring projects in each category with pyramid awards presented to the next highest scoring projects.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year's panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, Construction Users Roundtable, and the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.
Roy Anderson Corp is one of the largest general construction firms in the Southeast providing construction management, design-build, general contracting and preconstruction services.
