This existing racetrack facility was purchased by Harrahs and converted into a “Racino,” this being the first for Harrahs. Half of the first floor was renovated to house slot machines and video poker. The balance of Phase I included the complete renovation of the existing facility (over 300,000 sq. ft.) as well as the surrounding grounds. This included resurfacing all parking lots, additional valet parking areas, brand new winner’s circle and paddock areas, refurbished groomsmen quarters and jockey areas, work to barns, stables and horse stalls, fencing, landscaping, a new main entry boulevard and much more. Phase II included a new 150,000 gaming facility adjoining the racetrack with 1500 gaming machines and three restaurants. There was 27,000 square feet of gaming floor space in Phase I on the first floor providing 905 slot/video poker games, as well as two concession areas. It is now open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Being completed in four months, this was the fastest project ever undertaken by Harrahs.
This project was awarded a Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors Merit Award for Commercial Construction Over $15 Million Out of State
