This 140,000 sf high school addition consists of nine new buildings and connections to two existing buildings. The new buildings include five classroom wings, an administration building, cafeteria, gymnasium and a library building. Elevated 14 feet, construction consisted of timber pile supported concrete footings, structural concrete columns and concrete slab with structural steel buildings. Along with the elevation of the buildings came an elevated walkway covered in aluminum and translucent canopies which allows students to travel from building to building without steps, ramps or the impact of inclement weather. Another feature is a reverse amphitheatre concrete structure complete with planters and landscaping. There is covered concrete paved parking under four of the nine buildings and security is accommodated by the brick pilaster and wrought iron fencing and gates which adorn the entire site. Other concrete features include a legacy garden with decorative concrete patterns and brick paver inlay to receive the names of former alumni and a feature wall that commemorates the schools educational history along with the challenges Hurricane Katrina brought. The exterior is clad with weather resistant stained precast panels constructed with a combination of the new Slenderwall design, the factory placement of 2” concrete veneers, and standard 7” thick concrete panels. Many of the panels have a brick pattern to match existing buildings. Each roof is constructed with a modified bitumen membrane system on the main buildings and standing seam metal on structural steel canopies. The structural steel canopies are clad in black aluminum composite panels.
